NHC’s Florida chapter will be the last to wrap up its program year on July 23rd. In total, more than 148,000 hours of service will have been completed by NHC’s 90 service members this year serving at more than 60 different host sites, that include community health centers, county health departments, schools, community-based public health organizations, and hospitals.
NHC recruits, trains, and places emerging leaders in resource-limited organizations. Members help build healthy communities by providing health education and health access to underserved individuals throughout the United States.
Tisha Nickenig, Director, National Health Corps, is proud of the 2017-2018 service members and the work they have completed. "I'm proud to announce that National Health Corps has completed its 23rd year of operation with 90 AmeriCorps members providing health education and access services to nearly 124,000 individuals from under-served communities throughout Philly, Pittsburgh, Florida and Chicago! It's an honor to work with the NHC staff and members throughout the U.S to connect individuals who need it most with health education, benefits and services, while at the same time developing more compassionate future health leaders! Our NHC members continue to inspire me as they dedicate a year of their lives to serving the underserved in our nation, pushing forth our program vision that everyone deserves the right to good health. Without their dedication, our program would not exist."
Following the completion of their service terms, members in each location celebrated their accomplishments with graduation ceremonies and receptions highlighting the important service they completed in their communities and the memories they made together.
