Philadelphia, PA – Mary Kargbo, CEO of Berks Community Health Center, has been elected Board Chairperson of the Health Federation of Philadelphia (HFP). Her first three-year term as HFP Chair began in 2018. She will be up for reelection in 2021.
A resident of Exeter, PA, Kargbo has served on the HFP Board of Directors since 2012. “Mary has been a fully engaged member of the Health Federation network of community health centers and a valuable contributor to our Board and our mission,” shared HFP CEO Natalie Levkovich.
Berks Community Health Center, a member of the Health Federation, is the only Community Health Center in Berks County, providing access to comprehensive primary care throughout Reading. Founded in 2012, BCHC has expanded rapidly under Mrs. Kargbo’s leadership and now serves over 10,000 individuals each year.
Kargbo, who is a registered nurse and previously worked as a midwife, is passionate about her work and support of HFP. “I have always worked within inner-city hospitals and served on committees and boards whose role is to care for the underserved,” she said.
In addition to HFP, Kargbo serves on many boards, including the Reading Area Community College Board of Directors, Opportunity House Board of Directors, and the Pennsylvania Association of Community Health Centers (PACHC) Board of Directors.
In 2017, she was honored at the annual meeting of the PACHC with a prestigious APEX Award. She received the first Wilford Payne Health Center Mentor Award.
