CBO Spotlight: Catholic Social Services

Catholic Social Services

This month, we are highlighting the food pantry program that Catholic Social Services offers at five locations throughout the Philadelphia area!

What types of services does CSS provide?
Catholic Social Services is a large multi-service organization that provides a range of free and reduced cost programs throughout Philadelphia and neighboring counties. The CSS food pantry services operate out of the five family service centers, located in Philadelphia, Delaware County, and Bucks County. Each of the family service centers provides the core services of parenting support and food pantries in addition to other site specific programs such as preschools, homeless services, or adoption resources. The parenting and pregnancy support services offered at each of the five locations include educational classes for expecting families, parenting resources, and access to baby items.

What participants expect from the food pantry?
All family service sites offer a variety of food items depending on the season. Participants can expect to receive nonperishable items such as dry goods and canned goods, as well as perishable items such as meats, fruits, and veggies. Each day and each service site will look different in regards to items available for individuals to receive.

What is the best way to get connected to the food pantry services?
The quickest way for individuals to receive food pantry items is to come to the pantry during open hours. You can also get connected through the Connect4Health platform. Please call the phone number of the service center if you have any questions!

What is important for participants to know about the food pantry services?
The family service centers operate their food pantries at different hours and each has varying requirements for accessing this service. Participants can usually visit the food pantry once or twice a month depending on capacity and the service site. Accessing any of the five food pantries is free of charge. None of the service sites have eligibility requirements and most do not require participants to have an ID at time of service.
