Philadelphia, PA – The Health Federation of Philadelphia (HFP) announced today that the organization will be honored as the recipient of the American Cancer Society’s Partners in Health Award at the 2018 American Cancer Society, Greater Philadelphia Area Volunteer Awards Celebration on Thursday November 1, 2018. HFP was selected to be honored because of the great work the organization has done to make differences in the lives of people in the Philadelphia-area community.
“We’re thrilled to be honored with the Partners in Health Award at the 2018 American Cancer Society, Greater Philadelphia area Volunteer Awards Celebration,” shared HFP CEO Natalie Levkovich. “Similar to the American Cancer Society’s mission to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer, our mission at the Health Federation is to improve access to and quality of health and human services for underserved and vulnerable populations. It is critical that both of our respective organizations continue to improve access to quality care and implement solutions to health disparities that affect people both here at home, and around the world. We’re proud of the work we do to benefit those we serve in the Greater Philadelphia community, and thank the American Cancer Society for their great work that supports the health of both our local and global communities.”
The American Cancer Society bestows the Partners in Health Award on an organization that has high level of commitment to the mission of the Society. HFP has worked closely with the American Cancer Society to promote evidence-based cancer screening in Federally Qualified Health Centers. In particular, HFP has worked closely with ACS on the "80 Percent by 2018" campaign to promote colorectal cancer screening among low-income and minority populations who often do not receive early screening and detection services, and as a consequence suffer an undue burden of mortality.
“We are honored to work with the Health Federation of Philadelphia to save lives and reduce the unequal burden of cancer in underserved communities”, says ACS Sr. Manager, Kate Mastalski. “Our partnership has supported the efforts to help populations at greatest risk of poor cancer outcomes receive early detection. We thank the Health Federation of Philadelphia for their continued dedication and recognizable impact on the healthcare needs of vulnerable communities.”
