The Health Federation of Philadelphia is offering an advanced clinical training program for primary care providers who are interested in improving their ability to provide medication assisted treatment (MAT). This program is designed for physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants who have already completed their Buprenorphine Waiver Training (also known as DATA waiver training) and intend to treat patients for opioid use disorder in their primary care practice.
The MAT Mentoring Preceptorship program, offered in collaboration with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, is divided into two distinct parts: 1) a full day of didactic training led by experienced primary care providers who prescribe MAT medications; and 2) a clinical observation session with expert providers. The didactic training will cover screening and identifying candidates for MAT, best practices for induction, drug screen interpretation, principles of harm reduction and trauma informed care, and integrating MAT into team-based care. There is no fee to participants, including continuing medical education credits for both didactic and clinical observation sessions.
Class size is limited to encourage interaction between participants and faculty and offer an opportunity to strategize how to integrate concepts covered in the training into their own service. Following course completion, the Health Federation will be available to provide additional support to participants and their sites in order to support integration of MAT into their practice.
The first training session is scheduled for March 22, 2019 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Participants will be scheduled for clinical observation sessions soon after this date at experienced MAT provider sites.
Requirements:
This preceptorship is offered to physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants who are licensed in Pennsylvania and practicing in Philadelphia, who have completed their DATA waiver training. To apply, or for more information, please email cabrams@healthfederation.org.
