The National Health Corps is pleased to announce our expansion with the launch of a new Community Health Fellowship program in Greater Philadelphia!
The National Health Corps: Community Health Fellowship (NHC: CHF) program recruits, trains, and places 40 individuals across the country into not-for-profit organizations within their communities. Members will serve in Community Health Worker, Digital Health Navigator, or Medical Interpreter roles and receive accredited training, supervision, and experience needed to jumpstart meaningful public health careers.
Greater Philadelphia’s NHC: CHF program welcomes prospective members who have a passion for serving their communities and are eager to use their community knowledge, life experience, and training to help build healthy communities by providing essential health education and services to individuals in communities plagued by histories of racial and economic inequities.
Members serve 1,700 hours over the course of 42-52 weeks in one of 5 host site organizations:
- Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
- Community Health & Dental Care
- Esperanza Health Center
- HIAS Pennsylvania
- SEAMAAC
Members will receive a stipend of $25,500 over the course of their service term (the equivalent of $15 per hour); health, vision, and dental insurance; child-care reimbursement (if needed); transportation reimbursement for commuting to required training days; mental health, financial and life counseling; student loan forbearance with no interest during the service term; and CHW, Digital Health Navigator and Medical Interpreter training certificates.
All members will also earn a $6,495 Federal Education Award at the successful completion of their Service Term, which can be widely applied to education and training opportunities.
In order to serve, NHC members must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Members must be at least 18 years of age by the start of service
- Members must be U.S. Citizens, U.S. nationals, or lawful permanent residents
- Members must have achieved a high school diploma or GED by the start of service
- Members must be current residents of Philadelphia or Montgomery counties
- Members must not have previously served four AmeriCorps State or National terms
We are now recruiting members for our inaugural cohort starting this Winter 2023! Interested applicants can apply here: https://www.nationalhealthcorps.org/site/greater-philadelphia.
Register here for our upcoming information session on Thursday, December 22nd from 6-7 pm EST for prospective applicants.
NHC Greater Philadelphia: Community Health Fellowship is also looking to partner with organizations that are interested in: hosting an NHC: CHF member in a full-time unique, direct-service community health position, organizing one-time (or short-term) outside service opportunities, or providing other learning opportunities for our members. If you’re interested in any of these opportunities, please email Kiera Kenney, Program Director of NHC Greater Philadelphia: Community Health Fellowship @ Kkenney@healthfederation.org.
