Philadelphia, PA –Rashanda Perryman, The Vanguard Group’s Program Officer; Co-lead Vanguard Strong Start for Kids Program™, has been appointed to the Health Federation of Philadelphia (HFP) Board of Directors. Perryman, a longtime supporter of HFP, first became involved with the non-profit as a staff member of the William Penn Foundation.
Perryman looks to bring her vast philanthropic leadership experience to the Health Federation. “We look forward to benefiting from her expertise in early childhood education as we work together to promote services to Philadelphia area’s most vulnerable families,” shared HFP CEO Natalie Levkovich. Perryman also serves as Board liaison on the Health Federation’s Early Head Start Advisory Committee of the Health Federation of Philadelphia Board.
Vanguard, one of the world’s largest investment management companies, is based in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania and is a socially responsible corporate leader. According to Vanguard’s website, the Vanguard Strong Start for Kids Program™, which Perryman co-leads, was established in 2015 to harness the collective power of charitable giving by Vanguard and their crew. Its broad objective is “to start kids off right.” The program approved $7.3 million in grants during the 2017 calendar year. This philosophy of "starting kids off right" is shared by HFP and is reflected in many of our programs.
Perryman, a resident of Montgomery County and married mother of two, also serves on the Steering Committee of the Philadelphia Black Giving Circle. Her passion for philanthropy and giving back is rooted in her former work in early childhood education as a teacher and social worker. “I am motivated by the fact that all children - regardless of their background, the community they live in, or the adults in their lives - deserve the opportunity to be successful in school and in life. And the research is clear, ensuring the healthy development of young children ages 0-5, particularly those from low-income backgrounds, offers this opportunity,” noted Perryman.
The Health Federation of Philadelphia Board of Directors includes a diverse group of talented and dedicated leaders, representative of the various communities we serve in the Greater Philadelphia Area. Our Board is comprised of 18 individuals, including 67% women and 56% representing minority groups.
